Bio Compost

Balavidhya Ganapathi Trust initiated the establishment of S.T.E.T Biofloral product Development and Research Center in the year 2005 as a first instant to cope up with the demand of micronutrients, Biofertilizers and Biocontrol agents for various crops as long field eco friendly crop production inputs in agriculture for benefiting large number of farmers in Tamil Nadu state especially, towards accomplishing both the twin holy concepts of agriculture and environmental sustainability.
S.T.E.T Biofloral products development and Research centre, which has been established for agricultural research, has led to the starting of Biominin Laboratories to produce fertilizers (Azospirillum and Rhizobium) and micronutrients for the improvement of soil fertility and quality of the agricultural products and for the environmental conservation. The products are of high quality and they are sold at subsidized rates.
Biominin Products Micronutrients
OBJECTIVES
- Creating awareness about the advantages of biofertilizers and biocontrol agents to farmers, Women Self- help groups and students
- Motivating organic farming to the rural people through the students of STET
- Formulating highly effective and cost- effective technology for the production of Agro- based products from the natural resources
- Promoting the research to the improvement of organic products for sustainable agriculture
- Providing vermicompost training to the students and Women Self help groups for self sustaining livelihood development by improving the fertilization capacity of soil as well as quality agricultural production
- Developing capacity, skills of the target women of Self Help Group and students on Vermicompost production and Mushroom production for their socioeconomic empowerment through agriculture
- Initiating researchers to determine the effectiveness of biofloral products through plot and field experiments
- Evolving marketing strategy for the different range of agricultural products using the services of the students of MBA of STET
Soil Testing & Fertiliser Recommendation
With a realization that the loss of natural fertility of soil is due to excess and unregulated use of chemical fertilizers and so soil environment should be maintained properly for the proper functioning of biofertilizer, the service of soil testing must reach the grass root level. For this purpose a model was developed here to provide soil testing services to the farmers at grass root level and enabled entrepreneurs to start their own business. In addition to testing of N, P, K, pH, EC. This centre also provides the assessment of micronutrients. Proper management of soil is an important issue in biofertilizer technology. With the development of societal method of soil testing, the institute could reach the farmers level with soil testing facility.
Azospirillum
Dose
Seed treatment (for one acre): 200 g (1 pkt)/ 10-15 kg seeds with light sprinkling of water.
Seedling root treatment (for one acre): 2-4 pkts culture per 15 litre water, deep the roots for 30 min before transplanting.
Soil application (for one acre): 8-10 pkts culture admixed with 50 kg pulverized soil or FYM and broadcast. This mixture can be applied to soil near the roots of standing crop.
Rhizobium
Suitable for:
Ground nut, Black gram, Green gram, Red gram, Cow pea, Bengal gram, Mustard, Soy bean, French bean, Cluster bean, Lab-lab, Sesbania sp, Leguminous trees etc.
Seedling root treatment (for one acre): 2-4 pkts culture per 15 litre water, deep the roots for 30 min before transplanting.
Dose
Seed Treatment (for one acre): 200 g / 10-15 kg seeds with light sprinkling of water.

Autoclave
It is an apparatus in which materials are sterilized by air free saturated steam (under pressure) at a temperature above 100˚C. If the steam pressure inside the autoclave is increased to 15 psi, the temperature will rise to 121°C. this is sufficient to destroy all vegetative cells. Normally all growth medium are sterilized in the autoclave.
Laminar air flow chamber
Laminar air flow chamber provides a uniform flow of filtered air. This continuous flow of air will prevent settling of particles in the work area. Air borne contamination is avoided in this chamber. Culture transfers and inoculation can be done here.
BOD Incubator
Incubators providing controlled conditions (light, temperature, humidity, etc.) required for the growth and development of microorganisms. Multiplication of starter culture can be done in this instrument.
Rotary shaker
It is used for agitating culture flasks by circular motion under variable speed control. Shaking provides aeration for growth of cultures. Shakers holding upto 20-50 flasks are generally used. The capacity of the shaker may be increased if it is a double- decker type.
Hot air oven
Hot air oven is meant for sterilizing all glassware materials. Dry heat is used in this apparatus to sterilize the materials. Normally 180OC is used for two hours for sterilizing glasswares.
pH meter
An instrument for measuring pH of the solution using a 0-14 scale in which seven represents neutral points, less than seven is acidity (excess of H‘ over OH-) and more than seven is alkality (excess of OH- over H‘ ) useful in adjusting the pH of the growth medium.
Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer
AAS can be used to determine over 70 different elements in solution or directly in solid samples used in pharmacology, biophysics and toxicology research.
Atomic absorption spectrometry has many uses in different areas of chemistry such as:
- Clinical analysis: Analyzing metals in biological fluids and tissues such as whole blood, plasma, urine, saliva, brain tissue, liver, muscle tissue, semen
- Pharmaceuticals:used for analyzing minute quantities of a catalyst that remain in the final drug product
- Water analysis: Analyzing water for its metal content.
Flame Photometer
Photoelectric flame photometer is a device used in inorganic chemical analysis to determine the concentration of certain metal ions, among them sodium, potassium, lithium, and calcium.
Fermentor
A fermentor is the equipment, which provides the proper environment for the growth of a desired organism.
It is generally a large vessel in which, the organism may be kept at the required temperature, pH , dissolved oxygen concentration and substrate concentration. Different models of fermentors are available depending upon the necessity.
A simple version model contains steam generator, sterilization process devices and agitator.
A sophisticated fermentor contains pH regulator, oxygen level regulator, anti-foam device, temperature controller, etc.
